Privacy Policy

Kaltrix is a crowd-sourced radar-detector telemetry and navigation app. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how it is shared. Sharing anonymized detections is a core, always-on function of the app rather than an optional feature. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the network, and we never sell your personal information.
What we collect
Account email — used to sign you in, secure your account, and send password-reset links. Guest sessions do not require an email.
Precise location — your device GPS location, used to draw your position on the map, route you, and geotag detections. We access location in the foreground while the app is open, and in the background only while a radar detector is connected, so we can keep alerting you as you drive.
Bluetooth connections — Kaltrix connects to supported radar detectors over Bluetooth to read live band and signal data. We do not scan for or track any Bluetooth devices other than the detector you choose to connect.
Detection telemetry — when your detector reports an alert (band, relative strength, and location), we contribute an anonymized, location-coarsened record to the shared crowd map.
How detection data is shared
Kaltrix is only useful because drivers share what their detectors see. Sharing coarsened, anonymized detections is a core function of Kaltrix and is always on whenever the app is running with a detector connected — there is no opt-out, because the crowd map cannot exist without it.
When your detector reports an alert, it sends the precise detection to our servers. Before we share that detection to the crowd map or store it in hotspot layers, we coarsen the coordinates (to roughly 110 meters) and strip identifiers, so other drivers never see your exact position or your identity. The crowd map you see is built from these coarsened, anonymized contributions from other drivers. We never publish your precise location or your account email to other users.
How we use your data
We use your data to operate core features: showing your location, routing, connecting to your detector, powering the live crowd map, and delivering alerts. We do not use your location or detection history to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell personal information to third parties.
Service providers and subprocessors
We rely on a small set of third parties to run the service. They receive only the data needed to do their job, are contractually limited to providing their service to us, and do not get your data for their own purposes:
Backend hosting and database — our app backend runs on Render, and detection and account data is stored in a hosted Postgres database (a Postgres/Supabase host). These receive your account record and the detection telemetry you contribute.
Maps, routing, and geocoding — Mapbox, OSRM, and Photon power the map, turn-by-turn routing, and place search. When you route somewhere or search for a place, they receive the origin and destination coordinates and your place-search queries.
Aerial and ADS-B data — we use aerial and ADS-B data providers to surface nearby aircraft relevant to enforcement awareness; these receive the map area you are viewing, not your identity.
Error monitoring — Sentry receives crash and error reports so we can find and fix bugs. We keep coordinates and personal identifiers out of these reports.
Transactional email — Resend sends account emails such as password-reset and verification links, and receives the email address a message is sent to.
Data retention
Your account email is retained while your account is active. Coarsened, anonymized detection telemetry may be retained to keep the historical map and hotspot layers useful. When you delete your account, your email and account record are removed, and telemetry you contributed is disassociated from your account.
Deleting your account and data
You can delete your account and associated personal data at any time from inside the app: open Settings and choose "Delete account". This permanently removes your account and cannot be undone. If you have questions or need help with a deletion request, contact us using the details below.
You can also request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by emailing the contact address below, and we will help you.
Security
Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. Your session token is stored in the device secure keystore. Location coordinates and personal identifiers are kept out of logs.
Age and licensed drivers
Kaltrix is intended only for licensed drivers of legal driving age and is not directed to minors. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the app carries a 17+ rating. If you believe a minor has provided us personal information, contact us using the details below and we will remove it.
